Justice Equity Diversity Inclusion
As a mission based organization looking for other mission based organizations, the acronym JEDI fits best. Each element is connected and the overall combination is a reminder of the influence of power.
Justice - A focus on long-term solutions to fix a broken system. Justice is often associated with the criminal justice system and law enforcement. The just world hypothesis influences most people with the belief that the world is fair and people get what they deserve. The Wade Alliance works towards a more just world as a shared goal.
Equity - A consideration of advantages and disadvantages in obtaining similar outcomes. Different from equality where everyone gets the same, equity gives people what they need. Equity vs. Equality
Diversity - A measure of different identity markers. Identities protected from discrimination include race, national origin, religion, sex, gender, age, disability, veteran and pregnancy. "Diversity of thought" is a false marker used to avoid the work required to increase identity diversity.
Inclusion - Similar to Belonging - An environment where all individuals are welcomed, valued and supported. The easiest place for any organization to start is by making all of the current employees first feel included.
